Basix:Builder® Overview


Basix:Builder® is a simple to use configuration tool that allows you to rapidly develop and easily maintain custom business solutions. By using Basix:Builder® development effort and time can be reduced by up to 90%.

Ideal for Commercial Business Software providers, IT Consultants or In-house IT organisations to quickly design and build mission critical business applications, custom solutions and unique business applications. Basix:Builder® can also be used to replace aging legacy systems, commercial packages or other stand-alone business systems.

The new Basix™ Business Application Software development and deployment system consists of a commercial software platform (Basix:Platform®) and an easy-to-use business application development framework (Basix:Builder®) that together simplifies and reduces risk, effort, costs, and the number of people involved in designing, developing, deploying and maintaining robust business solutions for either the commercial software market or in-house business applications.

Basix™ removes many of the tedious and complex aspects of traditional software development methodologies and source coding. It allows "mere mortals" to design and deliver comprehensive business solutions in a fraction of the time it would take using traditional design methods and programming techniques.

Using Basix:Builder®, a person with existing knowledge of the business requirements and intermediate database design skills can quickly develop business applications for their end-users or clients. Due to the intuitive Graphical User Interface (as shown below), it typically only takes a couple of days working with Basix:Builder® to create powerful business applications for any purpose.

The Basix:Builder® Application Designer is a powerful software development tool that allows you to:

  • Create a forms structure (left side) where end-users can run their business functions from a security controlled hierarchy
  • Paint up or layout each form in the application in "Card", "Grid" and "Chart" layouts. These forms allow for Search, Edit, Add, Delete and also workflow functions
  • Link related forms as child forms for reviewing, editing and activating business actions or workflow
  • Preview the actual application after design or configuration changes are completed
  • Configure each Form or individual Form Attribute using the right hand side design palette.

All forms in the application are bound to nominated datasets - these can be tables or views in a single database, or data from a range of sources. Typically, Basix:Builder® would use datasets from a database designed for the specific business application. However, it can also be used to join multiple databases from existing business systems, thereby forming a centralised business solution that displays, searches and updates data from a range of sources.

Basix:Builder® also allows the inclusion of Charting, Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth Mapping linked to data objects in the application, providing a range of views of business data. It also has a graphical relationship explorer for navigating business object relationships (ie connectivity, parent/child and peer to peer relationships) and a range of other standard features that would typically be required in many business or mobile solutions.

For end-users, Basix™ has a range of standard application features in the Basix:Platform® application that are available in all applications built. These include a powerful query-by-form search capability, saved searches, and advanced searching to allow end-users a broad range of search capabilities. A range of Document Management features, Reporting Services, Data Import and Export facilities, Cloning, Auditing and Workflow are all standard features.

Complex business logic or complex functions that cannot be accommodated within the standard workflow or configuration can be added to any form using a unique "snap-in" business adapter technology which can be coded for the specific requirement by a .NET programmer. This means that even the most complex business applications can be catered for in this technology.  There are basically no limits to the type of business application that can be delivered with Basix:Builder®.
