Updated Look and Feel for Basix

1st June 2008

EMS Solutions is keen to provide the best possible end-user experience for our Basix:Platform® software product, and so recently commissioned a user interface expert to conduct a Usability Review of the Basix™ User Interface. This study covered a range of principles taken from "Principles for Usable Design" provided by the Usability Professionals Association, including Usefulness, Consistency, Simplicity, Communications, Error prevention and handling, Efficiency and Work Load Reduction. As a result of this process and the recommendations it provided, a number of user interface enhancements have recently been implemented in Basix™. These include:

  • New Outlook-style buttons for selection of major functional areas.
  • Enhanced To-do list functionality, with auto show based on pre-set timeframes.
  • Enhanced button size, descriptions and shortcuts.
  • A new Reporting Group now included within the new Outlook-style buttons, rather than on the toolbar.
  • Relocation of Saved Search feature to nodes under each application form on the main treeview
  • Enhancement of the standard saved search functionality.
  • New Background images to clearly indicate the current modes for Search, Add, Edit and No-records found.
  • A range of changes to Business component labels to make the wording more relevant.
  • A range of changes to Grid operations to improve data entry and general useability.

All these changes have been implemented to resolve confusion between user modes, improve product consistency and increase the visibility of functions and features for end-users.
